@recordstoreday 4/19 @CDWarehouseSTL w/ #LikeAnArmy @fivefoldrock @jbzr @NSIS_StL

Record Store Day would not be complete without the annual CD Warehouse event that takes place on Saturday, April 19th this year. As usual, it will feature plenty of sale items and concert tickets. Plus, performances by Like An Army, Fivefold, J. Boozer and Nothing Set In Stone. Visit HERE for the official event page. I even noticed on Walter Ray's facebook that he broke out an old box of tapes released by local artists from the times before the rise and fall of the compact disk. Who knows what you might find there? To me, that is the exciting part about it all. Below is some music by the artists performing next weekend.

New music by @ShotgunAbby, @Unifyah & new video by @evilsuperheroes!

Shotgun Abby makes music under the indie rock umbrella and they are doing what they love. Which is making music they like. Their latest track is entitled, "Athen's Burning". I think that the title and the lyrics for this song fit what's going on in general terms with our daily lives in this country. We are consumed daily with our personal muses and meanderings, while interacting and learning the continual blurred lines of the boundaries that seem to shrink before our very eyes. Times get tough and there are always many things that quickly come to mind as to why it has nothing to do with ourselves. When ultimately, we are responsible for ourselves and cannot control the actions of others. I do my personal best not to judge, but we all fall short at times.

This track has a nice, progressive flow that appeals to me. Shawn's vocals reign over the first verse and chorus, while Kerry's are introduced in the second and they mesh well together by the second chorus. Shotgun Abby began in 2012 and just recorded their upcoming release at BSRG Studio. Shotgun Abby's family has grown lately too. Shawn Telkamp added rhythm/lead guitarist Ross Watson, bassist Jeremy Carpenter and the latest addition of Rose Lynne Guardado on backing vocals. Tony Hunt continues to play percussion, while Kerry Duepner adds to the heat with the fire of her vocal execution. The song really sounds good quality and I enjoyed the songwriting too. I'm glad that things are coming together for them. Everyone meshes well all around the board. Decide for yourself and listen and check out their upcoming shows below the music.

*Visit HERE to stream/download "Athen's Burning" and also HERE for more music available by Shotgun Abby.

I am stoked also to present the new EP by Unifyah. This nine-piece group blends styles of rock, reggae, ska, dub, hip-hop and funk. They are very hard working and some of the coolest guys I've ran across over the past couple of years. Having already heard the music live, I was impressed that the studio versions of their music has that live feel that some artists don't realize to incorporate when recording. It sounds tight. I think you may have heard of them before and their website can explain as to why. These dudes are on "Fyah!" To purchase their debut EP on ITunes visit HERE. I'ts also available on Amazon, Rhapsody, Spotify and Google Play.

In honor of Black History Heritage Month @KimMassieSings #MarquiseKnox @evilsuperheroes @moegeston

In honor of Black History Heritage Month I thought that it would be neat to post some of my favorite African-Americans that I enjoy from our scene. STL Public Radio aired & has some shows on St. Louis history in black and white that I found interesting. Explore St. Louis also showcases some of the events around town in conjunction with this months celebration and awareness. Kim Massie is the most recognizable that comes to mind. She was just honored by the RFT as one of the six acts leading our scene currently. She is one busy lady. When she is not out at premier events or venues like her mainstay on Broadway, she is also enjoying life as a grandma. Recently, she performed and shared with Arch City Radio Hour. Let's give it a listen & feel free to "like" her fan page HERE. Her next two performances are Thursday, 2/20 & Thursday 2/27 at Beale On Broadway from 10:30 pm to 2:30 am.

Stream - Arch City Radio Hour: Kim Massie and Peter Martin in Concert.

Marquise Knox comes from a family heritage of the blues. He is currently on tour in Florida. He learned how to play guitar from his grandma. He has come a long way since then earning performing rights with some big names. He is still young in the grand scheme of things and plays like a blues master of the past, yet he is the real deal in the present. I think that is what I admire most about him. Feel free to give his fan page a "like" HERE.

Stream/download - Marquise Knox "Tears Feel Like Rain"

A friend of mine once shared a status update about Midwest Avengers. I seem to recall it now. "It's nice to be part of a posse." That has been my experience with them too. MWA has been rocking for twenty-two years now. Currently, they have two shows left with their guitarist of ten years Mike Zubiena and are celebrating their new release "Hurry Up & Wait". They also just added bass player Brad Blumenkemper to the fold. In addition, they have a brand new video that drops this Friday, 2/21. HERE is a teaser from it and it's titled "Life Goes On". Their next two shows are as follows: Saturday, March 1 at Cicero's & Tuesday, March 18th at Fubar. Stop by their fan page HERE and give them a "like" & then check out some of their latest music. The new stuff is available on ITunes and they will have physical copies at their upcoming shows.

Maurice Egeston is an educator, pianist and leads his own band. Sister trio @dubbnubb to perform at @FoamSTL tomorrow 1/9.

The sisters in Dubb Nubb are back with a new album 'Wild Dreamin'' that was released November 19th. The album includes 14 songs written in the past two years since Delia and Hannah moved to Columbia, MO (they are STL natives!) They moved away for college and recently welcomed a new addition to their group by welcoming Amanda on drums. The album was self-released on their own label Special Passenger Records and was recorded by Wil Reeves at Centro Cellar Studios in Columbia. They last came to town in November & they have another show this Thursday, January 9th at Foam that starts at 9pm.

The trio features twin harmonies, classical inspired guitar and sparse percussion. This is their 4th release since 2008, and over the years they have shared the stage with The Staves, Oberhofer, Kimya Dawson, and Pearl and the Beard, and released 2 Daytrotter sessions. Below is a free track and is the title song of the newest effort followed by the complete album for streaming & for purchase. If you plan to see the show you can also pick up a physical copy at the show.

@RockUFest tunes & highlights from the 3rd annual event. #STL #MUSIC

The third annual Rock U Festival went off without a hitch and everyone seemed to have a good experience again this year. Seven Eighteen, Daniel Dwyer & IQ, Out Of Sequence had battled it out earlier this year for optimal slots on the event. This year also brought acts like Jay Brooke Lipe & The Terrible Two's from the Riverbend area & he along with the festival's organizers made the Alton Telegraph. Juggernauts of rock like Divine Sorrow amazed the crowd outdoors on the new stage outside Atomic Cowboy. Final Veil dazzled & was unique. I could go on and on. The night was rounded outdoors with a fantastic set by The Pat Sajak Assasins & inside the Demo also brought the event to a climactic crescendo with Unifyah. Here is some of the artist's from this past year's event that took place on Saturday, Sept. 28th of 2013. We hope to see you for the fourth annual event in 2014.
