Josh Rouse Releases "Salton Sea" Including Exclusive Demo

New Album Love in the Modern Age

Out April 13 via Yep Roc Records

Recently, singer-songwriter Josh Rouse released "Salton Sea" along with an exclusive listen at Brooklyn Vegan to one of his earliest demos of the song. The minimalist arrangement of the demo provides a glimpse into the song’s evolution from bedroom synth-pop nugget to danceable indie rock single.

Listen to both tracks at Brooklyn Vegan & stream/embed "Salton Sea"

"Salton Sea" is the third track off Rouse's new album Love in the Modern Age, out April 13, via Yep Roc Records. Other released tracks include the title track

"Love in the Modern Age" (Watch Official Video) and "Businessman" which premiered at Forbes. Calling the album "a sterling collection that is joyous, upbeat and, most importantly, feels completely authentic," Forbes goes on to say "There is no retro gimmick to Love in the Modern Age. This is a masterful storyteller celebrating the nostalgia of his youth with his own feel." (Listen to "Businessman")

Similar to his work on his album 1972 where he captured the aesthetics of a specific moment in time, Josh’s new album Love in the Modern Age takes inspiration from the sound and production of early 1980's releases by The Blue Nile, The Style Council and Prefab Sprout. Also serving as inspiration were Roxy Music’s Avalon, Leonard Cohen's Various Positions and I'm Your Man. Non-ironic touches like sax, handclaps, reverbed guitar, backing vocals and keyboards give the moody but infectious songs a New Romantic flair.

Josh Rouse has solidified his status as one of his generation's most acclaimed songwriters in both the US and Europe, where he's lived on and off since 2004. Spending the better part of a year touring behind his critically acclaimed eleventh album, The Embers of Time, Rouse was ready for a change. "Coming off such a heavy record, I wanted to try something different," he explains. "I wanted to explore new sounds and write with a fresh backdrop." Trading in his trusty acoustic guitar for a synthesizer, Love in the Modern Age still bears Rouse's distinct fingerprints even as it pushes his limits and forges a bold new chapter more than twenty years into his celebrated career.

Josh Rouse will kick off his tour in the UK in April, followed by North America in May. Click HERE for a full list of UK/North American dates.

DEANNA DEVORE

The Chicago and Toronto based artist utilizes her hypnotizing vocals and her inventive production skills to create stunning music.

"'A Cause' starts off with a kick that mirrors a beating heart. Perhaps, it is synonymous with the way you feel when in a search for something unjustifiable. Before the chorus begins, that metaphorical heart stops and ushers us into the mental web of deciding your next move....[if] you just love good new music, lend Devore your ear." -Grungecake

"A perfect companion for your "cruising" playlist, you won't get enough of this hauntingly beautiful voice!" - True Music Network

"The song is a dark track with Devore's powerful vocals making you feel every ounce of her emotions. The song is well worth the listen from the moment you press play. "A Cause" is so powerful you won't take it off repeat." - Imperfect Fifth on "A Cause"

For the six men in UNDEROATH, whose members have evolved and thrived during a decade-long progression that has elevated them into one of heavy music’s biggest successes, change has been ubiquitous. 2010 has been no exception for the Tampa-based sextet, who underwent and overcame what many consider their most significant line-up alteration yet. Yet in doing so, UNDEROATH experienced an artistic rebirth in the form of Ø (DISAMBIGUATION), its triumphant fifth album for Solid State/Tooth & Nail.

Transformed by the arrival of new drummer DANIEL DAVISON, formerly of Norma Jean, UNDEROATH–which also counts TIM MCTAGUE, SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, GRANT BRANDELL, CHRIS DUDLEY and JAMES SMITH–has delivered an album that emphatically surpasses its predecessors in terms of craftsmanship and cohesion. If 2006’s Define The Great Line and 2008’s Lost In The Sound of Separation, both which debuted at #2 and #8 respectively on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart, were significant accomplishments, Ø (disambiguation) is UNDEROATH’s new creative high watermark. …. “We all think it’s our best record by far,” says frontman SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN of the band’s brilliant new disc. “I’d say to fans that you may have heard UNDEROATH, but you’ve never heard UNDEROATH like this. We can’t wait for people to hear it. There isn’t a single part on this record that we would change.” Be it the commanding opener, “In Division” – which balances the cathartic approach that has made UNDEROATH champions of hard music with an exhilarating melodic hook – or the expansive, inventive allure of “Catch Myself Catching Myself,” the Matt Goldman and Jeremy SH Griffith-produced Ø (disambiguation) asserts that the departure of longtime drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie hasn’t hurt the band. In fact, the line-up shift has instead strengthened the band’s resolve and liberated UNDEROATH. Most notably, SPENCER – who provided much of the singing and screaming vocals heard on Lost In The Sound of Separation – has embraced his role as the band’s lone singer, while bringing an ample supply of melody to Ø (disambiguation). “We’ve never been afraid of singing, but the big poppy choruses are gone,” says MCTAGUE. “This record has a lot more of a mature feeling. It wasn’t that we hated melody, but we wanted it to be a proper fit.” For CHAMBERLAIN, being the only singer in UNDEROATH feels and sounds more natural. “It’s never been in my personal taste to have two people interchanging vocals, so I wrote my vocals on the album for just one,” SPENCER explains. “It sounds less forced to me, plus it’s in the same voice. I made a conscious effort to make it interconnected. I enjoy singing, but before it felt like I couldn’t write a part and deliver it because of the inner workings of the band. Now there are no rules. I have the full creative freedom to deliver the song, whether its singing or screaming, the way I want to.” But it wasn’t just Spencer, the rest of the band felt unfettered during the crafting of Ø (disambiguation). “We let down our guard on everything with this record and just trusted one another,” TIM says. “We all wanted the same thing, no restraints. More than any other record we’ve made, this one came together more naturally. And ironically, we wound up with more melodic parts than ever before, but things weren’t so calculated.” Without confines, UNDEROATH arrived at atmospheric numbers like “Driftwood” and “Paper Lung,” two of the band’s most forward-thinking pieces yet, with little hesitation. The former, according to TIM, is inspired by Radiohead. “It’s our homage to the band. We embraced it and went were the song took us.” If that sounds like a radical shift, to hear it is to know it makes perfect sense with the pacing of Ø (disambiguation). Meanwhile, SPENCER cites the aforementioned “Paper Lung” as his personal favorite on the record. “For me, it has a classic Deftones feel. It’s still dark and heavy but there’s a melody driving it. Big choruses, guitars, quirky keyboard touches. I love it.” But that’s not to say that the sonic fists that fans have come to know are being edged out, as evidenced by the fast punk-inspired charge of “Vacant Mouth,” the irate, unforgiving “Reversal,” the maniacal feel of “Illuminator” and the vicious, mind-bending “Who Will Guard The Guardians.”. As for DAVISON’s entry, CHAMBERLAIN and MCTAGUE both herald the drummer as a key element in UNDEROATH’s ability to move forward. “The first person we considered was DANIEL,” says TIM, who first befriended the drummer ten years ago when his band shared Southeastern stages with Norma Jean. “And he came down to play with us and things just clicked quickly and easily. There was no hesitation, he immediately fit in. After three weeks of writing with DANIEL, we committed to do the new record on time and as planned. That spawned us into working every night, from 5 o’clock until 1 or 2AM the next morning. Playing for six to eight hours.” “Writing with someone new, was invigorating,” says SPENCER of DANIEL, who has since become a permanent member of UNDEROATH. “Drums play a huge part in UNDEROATH, and I think Daniel just killed it. He destroyed everything in his path when it came to writing and playing. It’s been such a smooth and positive transition. It feels natural now.” Working again with Goldman, who co-produced Lost In The Sound of Separation, and teaming with Griffith – who helmed Norma Jean’s most recent album, UNDEROATH assessed what it had done in the past and ultimately sought to convey a similarly organic feel on the record. “When we felt the record taking shape, we sat with it for awhile–we looked at the songs and our past releases and compared the production,” says MCTAGUE. “We weren’t looking to go down the same road. Our last couple of records were super-produced and edited. Matt and Jeremy are both vibe oriented and helped us get where we needed to go.” “There’s a lot of stuff on this record that some might consider it loose, but for us it’s got little imperfections, like we all do as human beings,” MCTAGUE adds. “And I think it’s probably closer to the live UNDEROATH experience. The nuances that give it a little bit of life and character are present and we really embraced that. A lot of the drum stuff for instance happened in one or two takes.” MCTAGUE continues, “This record feels more natural because it’s a lot more sequential whereas our last record was more piece by piece. It’s a lot closer to our live experience rather than a flawless, computerized project.” In that sense, Ø (disambiguation) lives up to its meaning. It’s an album that speaks for itself as it provides clarity about a band that has experienced its share of misinterpretation. “We want this record to set the record straight and it will,” SPENCER concludes. “It’s presented exactly the way we want it. And when we play it live it will show that UNDEROATH is, as it always was, the sum of its parts. I couldn’t be more proud of this record and happier with where we are as a band.”

Where most bands erroneously claim wholly distinct identities, Dance Gavin Dance truly defies categorization. The Sacramento based outfit possess the kind of artistic compass shared with broadminded but metal and punk-rooted iconoclasts like The Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria, but use it to diverge wildly, charting a new course that incorporates the melodic post-hardcore of Thursday or Taking Back Sunday with a taste of earnest pop melancholy.

Dance Gavin Dance fans have streamed “We Own the Night” nearly 12 million times on Spotify alone, with staple catalog anthems “Chucky vs. the Giant Tortoise,” “Young Robot,” “Inspire the Liars,” and “Deception” accounting for another 30 million streams on top of that. Their albums regularly chart in the Billboard 200, they’ve graced the cover of magazines like Alternative Press, and toured with Vans Warped Tour, A Day To Remember, and Pierce The Veil, all on their own terms.

Dance Gavin Dance will be making the following appearances this spring and summer around the area:

Basement formed in September 2009 in Ipswich, England following the break-up of pop punk band In This for Fun. In This for Fun released The Away from Home EP before they broke-up. The band picked Basement as a name simply because they "wanted a short name that didn't mean much." On 17 May 2010, the band released their debut EP Songs About the Weather and in August, signed to Run for Cover.

They released their first full-length album, I Wish I Could Stay Here, through Run For Cover Records in 2011. The band promoted the release through several tours, including tours to Australia and two American tours with label mates and friends Daylight (now Superheaven).

Before the release of their second album Colourmeinkindness, the band announced an hiatus. The group revealed that the break was "due to a number of personal commitments". Colourmeinkindness was released on 23 October and charted at number 188 on the US Billboard 200 chart. In mid-November, the band played their final shows.Guitarist Alex Henery later revealed it was due to vocalist Andrew Fisher wishing to become a certified teacher. This required Fisher to return to school for a period of a year and a half. Drummer James Fisher, Andrew's younger brother, was graduating from art school, and the rest of the members were working on their respective careers. Henery, meanwhile, was working as a videographer in Boston, Massachusetts for Run for Cover.

On the 29 of January 2014 a tweet was posted on the band's Twitter account simply saying "Hi", and the dates "2008–2012" were removed from their Twitter and Facebook biographies, suggesting the band had returned from their hiatus. The band posted on Facebook later that day confirming that the hiatus was over as well as suggesting that there would be a summer tour.

In June 2014, the band announced that they had secretly recorded a new EP for release in July of that year, entitled Further Sky including two new songs, plus a cover of Suede's "Animal Nitrate". The band toured across Australia, Japan and America between 26 July and 20 August. For the latter, all of the tour dates had sold out. The band then played a trio of shows (London, Leeds and Manchester) in the UK in late October with support from Cloakroom and Newmoon.

Guitarist Alex Henery noted in an August 2014 interview with The Aquarian that they were writing material for a new album. On 29 January 2016, the band released Promise Everything. On 3 February 2017, it was announced that the band had signed to major label Fueled by Ramen.

Citizen’s As You Please reports from ground zero of an epidemic. Two years removed from their previous Run For Cover LP, Everybody Is Going To Heaven, Citizen’s perspective is far less sublime. As You Please is a confrontational record, incapable of turning a blind eye toward the inescapable strife. And so, songwriter Mat Kerekes pursues the source of discontent that is ravaging his Rust Belt city of Toledo, Ohio with the band’s most dynamic record to date.

On As You Please the epidemic is bigger than addiction and overdoses. There is no longer a Dream to be pursued for the friends and family surrounding Citizen. The band explores that absence and the misguided ways in which it gets filled. On opener “Jet” the kids move slow and there’s a stranger living in the narrator’s home. “In The Middle Of It All” might be Citizen at their most hopeful, but it also reads as agonizing expression of the ruin in the Heartland.

As You Please also showcases the growing versatility of a band seven years deep and still restless. Citizen has churned and ground out their own unique foothold within the greater context of alternative rock. Written over the course of a year, the record is devoid of the brutish and sinister elements found on Everybody Is Going To Heaven. Here, Citizen go beyond their early grunge contrasts and strive for something benevolent.

There’s a spiritual core to the record that manifests in subtle ways like the ethereal vocals echoing in the breakdown of “Control,” the droning organs on “You Are A Star” or the almost operatic refrain on “In The Middle Of It All.” The finespun ways in which Citizen has written this record mark a cataclysmic breakthrough for the band. There is damage and disarray in the band member’s lives, but within this record all the pieces have been restored in an ornate arrangement befitting a stained glass mosaic.

In the end, As You Please tries to give strength to those in need. There are illicit factors that control, but Citizen has written a guiding light of an album out of the debris. It concludes with “You Are A Star” and “Flowerchild;” one an unstable request of confidence set to soaring progressions, the other a blistering finale that subverts expectation. As You Please might read as meek, but it represents Citizen in its most confident and expansive state.

Listen to pronoun's restless new single, 'wrong'

premiering on NPR

+ debut album due later this year via Rhyme & Reason Records

+ additional praise from The New York Times, Billboard, NYLON, Stereogum & more

One-woman band, pronoun (Alyse Vellturo) premiered her new single 'wrong' (Rhyme and Reason Records) recently on NPR. 'wrong' is the second single from her debut album, set to drop in 2018.

Back in 2016, pronoun released her debut EP, 'There's no one new around you,' an ode to the Tinder message one receives once they've reached the end of all eligible contenders on the app. The four track EP is filled with delicate rock tracks that were all written, recorded, and produced by Vellturo herself after a strenuous breakup. She has since toured stateside with the likes of Turnover and Elvis Depressedly, launched her own record label, played SXSW twice (and threw an official showcase at SXSW 2018), and released 'run,' the lead single from her forthcoming album which premiered onStereogum and has garnered attention from The New York Times, Billboard, NYLON and more.

'wrong' maintains the niche, lo-fi sound that pronoun channels in each of her tracks while embodying all the emotions she feels towards an ex-girlfriend. In Alyse's words, "For the longest time I was so angry at her, and the news that should have been the final straw actually just made me feel really bad for her which spun me in to the weird emotion of how can you feel sorry for some one you "hate"? How is that even possible, do other people feel this way? I guess in a way it's what I would want to say if i wanted to talk to her–which obviously I don't–so i wrote this song instead."

_______________

Kansas City, MO – This past week, volunteers have been turning in hundreds of thousands of signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State’s office to place two citizen-driven initiatives on the November ballot - raising the statewide minimum wage to $12/hr by 2023 and reforming Missouri’s campaign financing and ethics laws.  Coupled with last year’s drive to include on the ballot a citizen’s veto “right-to-work” law the legislature passed in 2017, it is clear that working people are FED UP with corporate power running their government (and their lives), and they are FIGHTING BACK!

To celebrate the work of thousands of volunteers, union members and concerned citizens throughout the region, festival organizers are throwing a WORKERS’ REVIVAL FEST May 11 and 12 at the recordBar in Kansas City.  The festival will celebrate work in all its forms and teach one another how to stand up to corporate power, support working people, and come together to demand higher pay and a better quality of life.

“This festival will help us change how we talk about workers’ rights,” said Justin Stein, from festival sponsor Missouri Jobs with Justice. “We can move away from the dangerous right-wing narrative that has eroded pay and working standards and toward the truth - that organizing is the only way to ensure working people are bargaining and not begging for better wages and benefits.”

Sponsored by Jobs with Justice, Black Site Records Cooperative, the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO, ULLICO (formerly known as Union Labor Life Insurance Co), 90.1-FM KKFI, and Pipefitters Local 533, the WORKERS’ REVIVAL FEST will feature a wide range of music from national, regional and local bands including hip hop (Ebony Tusks and NuBlvckCity), Americana/roots (Austin Lucas), Latin/Trad. Central American (Baracutanga), indie rock (Scruffy & The Janitors, Lovergurl) and potent political punk rock and roll (Downtown Boys, Friendship Commanders and Red Kate).

About Joyner Lucas

Joyner is quickly becoming one of the most prolific new artists in 2018. His recent viral hit “I’m Not Racist” sparked controversy throughout the music and cultural landscape and amassed 54 Millions views since its release in late December 2017. The song became a hot topic on major news outlets like CNN and Huffington Post.

Lucas worked with multi-platinum executive producer, Boi-1da, to release his mixtape, (508) 507-2209. It featured striking visuals such as “Just Like You”, “Winter Blues” and “I'm Sorry”, and an equally captivating narrative about the effects of suicide on loved ones. Not surprisingly, it accumulated over 29 million streams on Youtube  and 19 million on Spotify.

In 2015, Joyner’s breakthrough video,“Ross Capicchioni”, earned him an acclaimed slot on the 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher. Joyner Lucas has embodied the best of his music and plenty of critics and fans alike have taken note.

Now with Atlantic Records, Joyner Lucas is taking his distinctively prolific approach to music to higher levels.

Joyner’s fresh approach is quickly getting accolades from the top of the music business such as Eminem, Timbaland and Chris Brown. Joyner was also recently named one of three up and coming urban artists to watch for in 2018 by Forbes Magazine.

sweet meets sour on Mainland's highly anticipated new EP:

                "Villains"► LISTEN NOW

RIYL The Strokes, Lord Huron, Tokyo Police Club

+ hype from Interview Magazine, NYLON, FADER, Entertainment Weekly, NOISEY & more.

East coast meets West Coast on Mainland's highly anticipated new EP, "Villains," premiering exclusively via Clash Music.

Equally influenced by vinyl collections that range from Springsteen to Cold War Kids and the works of poets such as Lou Reed and William S. Burroughs, Mainland finds elegance in simplicity. Throughout their music, shuddering piano and loose guitar augment bare bones pop hooks. It’s a style that’s been carefully refined to perfection over the years and especially so since the boys traded New York City (the place of their meeting) for California (where all three respectively call home).

In many ways, the Golden State always subconsciously called back to them. Mainland first met in NYC, bonding over their shared roots. After independently releasing their Shiner EP in 2014, they landed a deal with 300 Entertainment as one of the label’s marquee rock acts. Following the release of the Outcast EP in 2015, they hit the road with the likes of Melanie Martinez and Jukebox the Ghost.

Along the way, they released fan favorite singles such as “Beggars”, "Outcast", and “Permission Slip”—which each amass over 1 million Spotify streams each. Between touring, the musicians recorded the songs that would become their 2018 EP, led by the anthemic single, “I Found God.”

“We got some fresh perspective by going back to California,” Topf leaves off. “Being in our new surroundings that were familiar, yet so different really influenced the album. We want to make music that fulfills us on a personal level. These songs are heart-on-your-sleeve. This is the arrival of who we are as a band.”

Now, this scene is about to get a lot brighter. The warmth of Mainland’s new music truly feels like home, as showcased in their new EP, "Villains." Mainland borrow from both coasts, and consequently, phases of their life on the release, wrapping the grit of their songwriting nous in some delightfully cotton-candy melodies.

Written in a time of chaos, the music is a testament to what can happen when you just sit back, and let things play their course. Frontman Jordan Topf explains, "During the process of writing these songs I was going through several degrees of push and pull in my love life. We've all felt like the villain or the bad cop in a relationship. In my case there was pointing of fingers, a rush of emotional peaks and valleys, and feelings of guilt for mistakes made. At the end of the day the meaning of love to me is not a contest or about winning."

"It's about seeing eye to eye and sharing something greater than yourself with someone. That's what I learned about myself in writing these songs. 'Villains' is really about not wanting to be the bad cop in the relationship and showing your lover that you are the truth.".

"Villians" is now available via 300 Entertainment.
