Save The Date: The @WayOutClub Celebrates Anniversary Sat. 4/7 w/ #HumanHost #TheHolyHandGrenades, #TheHighwaySaints, #9:09, #RamonaDeflowered + #FreeDirt

The Palms was the original name for The Way Out Club's previous location on the corner of Compton and Cherokee Street. The sign still hangs outside the current venue to this day. The original building opened for business in 1939 and there were two brothers that ran it from 1946 to 1964. After the last remaining brother passed, the club changed hands and eventually turned into The Way Out Club's first spot. In time, after not having enough space and landlord politics, another building caught Bob and Sherri's eye. Sherri's first to be exact. While driving by what is now what we know as The Way Out Club on Jefferson she pointed it out to Bob. They made an investment just before the year 2000 and found a new home with more area to facilitate their dedication to the St. Louis music scene. In April of 2000 they picked back up where they left off and made things even better.

On Saturday, April 7th you can be a part of what appears it very well could be a sold out show in celebration of the date of The Way Out Club's move to Jefferson 18 years ago. The headliner that night will be Human Host from the Bronx in New York. Supporting acts, patrons, musical guests and friends of The Way Out Club performing also will be The Holy Hand Grenades, The Highway Saints, 9:09, Ramona Deflowered and Free Dirt. These original music artists are all from the St. Louis area. The doors open at 7:00 pm. The show kicks off at 8:00 pm. The cover is $5.00. Visit HERE for the event details on Facebook. Continue on below to visit the artists online and to check out their music. Follow on for more on this unique venue, as well.

- Human Host: (Bronx, NY.)

Genre: Experimental, Other, Pop

https://www.facebook.com/Human-Host-8972579743

https://www.humanhost.tumblr.com

https://humanhost.bandcamp.com

For their first band announcement, The Way Out Club is pleased to bring you Human Host!!

"Originally hailing from Glen Arm, MD, Human Host was formed in December 2002 and is now based in New York City and other parts of the Northeast.

The creative core of Human Host is made up of a rotating ensemble of multi-media artists and figments of your imagination.

Many independent record labels have released music by Human Host and the group has also scored the soundtrack music for two independent films, as well as the independent feature "The Human Host Movie" which has been totally confusing and captivating crowds at screenings from coast to coast.

Human Host is now playing shows on tour in support of several new releases including "Ophiopogon's Blue Wonder" (2016) and "On Haida Gwaii" (2017)."

- The Holy Hand Grenades:

Genre: Pop Punk, Punk Rock, Pop Rock, Power Pop

https://www.facebook.com/hhgrenades

http://www.holyhandgrenades.bandcamp.com

For their second band, The Way Out Club brings you The Holy Hand Grenades!

"The Holy Hand Grenades have been trying to play rock n’ roll music without fucking up since 1999.  They have hours of original music drawing influence from Billy Joel, Leftover Crack, and everything in between, but they’ll probably just play a couple 70s power pop covers and then go drink at the bar with Bob. Rock!"

- The Highway Saints: (St. Louis, MO.)

Genre: Folk Rock

https://www.facebook.com/TheHighwaySaints

https://www.reverbnation.com/highwaysaints

For their third band, The Way Out Club is happy to announce The Highway Saints!

"The Highway Saints are a St. Louis folk-rock/jam band that give a tip of the hat to good old fashioned Rock’n’Roll. Typically, they tend to play just outside of St. Louis, but have had a tendency to be pulled back in to play a few times a month locally. They are gearing up for their self-titled debut album that is scheduled to begin in late March and will be heavily influenced by the sounds of The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, and even Drive-By Truckers. The Highway Saints have been noted to be in the “grey area” as far as genre due to the versatility of songwriting and musicianship amongst the members."

- 9:09: (St. Louis, MO)

Genre: Outer Space Rock

https://www.facebook.com/909stl

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBF1XKj-x1uj0eu8TilJTPg

Their 4th act to announce is 9:09!! Can you guess what time they'll be playing at?!

"9:09 is a 3-piece experimental / indie rock band who have been tearing up the St. Louis music scene with a blend of melodic rock music and a visually appealing performance aesthetic.

Influences include the regrets of things undone, Jungian psychology and Nancy Sinatra."

- Ramona Deflowered: (St. Louis, MO.)

Genre: Rock, "Revenge Rock, Punk, Blues

https://www.facebook.com/RamonaDeflowered

Google Ramona Deflowered https://g.co/kgs/hfLq7R

Their 5th band on the line-up is Ramona Deflowered!

"We are Ramona Deflowered, a band of rock and roll rebel chicks and a mannequin on a mission to inspire and empower females everywhere by bringing musical justice to the world (and our evil exes!) through our music."

"We like to refer to our sound as “revenge rock” but our style has been called everything from rock to punk to blues because our songs themselves vary widely in their styles."

And last, but not least is Free Dirt. These longtime friends and patrons of The Way Out Club bring their unique sound to the table in conjuction with this timely celebration of sorts. It just makes sense to have them on board for the event. They have been there through thick and thin. They need not an introduction. But, in the event you have not heard of them, well know you have.

- Free Dirt: (St.Louis, MO.)

Genre: Alt. Rock, Americana, Alt. Country, Indie, Punk

* More On The Way Out Club:

The St. Louis American, The Riverfront Times have all done well-written and positive articles on the venue in print. The Campus Life section of one of the area colleges also did an excellent write-up in the past too. A picture of that is included below. The picture was provided by Jamey Almond who plays bass for Miss Molly Simms and also Warhorse.

Notably, Sherri hosts "Dangerous Curves" with Sherri Danger on KDHX which airs Mondays from 2-4 pm CST.

"Between the two of them, owners Bob and Sherri Putnam have supported local music for years. Shows have included rock, punk, burlesque, and Super 8 screenings." - St. Louis Magazine

"Nostalgia hits like a ton bricks at this club, adorned with framed photos and artwork of pop culture past. Every inch of wall and ceiling space is covered with something here: B-movie posters, random art, framed pin-up girls giving their best sexyface, a collection of dead, vintage televisions, and weird alien fetuses housed in glass bottles like so many formaldehyde frogs. The TV sets that do work display obscure exploitation and indie-flicks. This hip watering hole has a venue side with a tall stage, booming sound system and enough seating in the form of '50s dinette sets to make Betty Draper jealous. In its storied history, the Way Out Club has hosted many a music group, ranging from psychedelic jam bands to all-girl garage rockers. Both the bar and show areas are spacious, providing ample room for the occasional interpretive dance, or punk rock flailing. The booze selection looks keen, and this spot stands to be a rare haven for hippies and hipsters alike." - The Riverfront Times

NEFESH MOUNTAIN RELEASES  "BENEATH THE OPEN SKY"

with special guests Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Tony Trischka and David Grier

"This is one of the finest, wholly bluegrass records one will hear in not only 2018 but as a touchstone moving forward."    NO DEPRESSION - March 2, 2018

Find it on iTunes

“The question is not, how do we get diversity into bluegrass, but how do we get diversity back into bluegrass?” asked Rhiannon Giddons during her keynote at the 2017 IBMA conference.  The answer is Nefesh Mountain.  Yes, Beneath The Open Sky is a bluegrass album. Yes, some of its lyrics are sung in Hebrew. No, it isn’t a gimmick or a parody. And, no, it’s not klezmer music.

That being said, let’s hear Beneath The Open Sky for what it really is: a soulful, euphoric, folk-flavored outpouring of hope and joy, propelled by the kind of crisp, crystalline picking that gives lyrics wings. It’s a distinctively Nefesh Mountain sound.

Recently, the husband and wife duo of Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg, released Beneath The Open Sky, their second full length album and follow up to their critically-acclaimed self-titled debut Nefesh Mountain. The recording was very much a hands-on undertaking for the couple, writing or arranging all 11 songs, as well as co-producing the entire project from start to finish. They recorded it with the instrumental backing of Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Tony Trischka and David Grier, aided by Nefesh Mountain’s touring band members, Alan Grubner on fiddle and Tim Kiah on bass.  A dazzling picker in his own right, Lindberg provides lead guitar and banjo throughout, while Zasloff soars with some of the most melodic, incisive and soul-stirring vocals we’ve heard since Mary Travers first took the spotlight.

* Watch "Beneath The Open Sky" *

* Watch "Bound For The Promised Land" *

Using original material, along with four tracks drawing from the folk and old time traditions, Lindberg and Zasloff ingeniously create a beautiful arc throughout Beneath The Open Sky which defines their own genre and world as they see it. Their message is clear from the album's opening track and rousing call for universal equality “Bound For The Promised Land," to the closing of their haunting rendition of Irving Berlin’s “Russian Lullaby." Throughout these songs, you can hear the foundational similarities between bluegrass and Jewish traditions, notably the lure of “home,” the love of nature and the comforts of a like-minded community. Jerusalem Ridge, Rocky Top, Flint Hill and Nefesh Mountain are clearly parts of the same eternal chain.

Both native New Yorkers, Lindberg and Zasloff have long and strong ties to bluegrass. “I grew up in Brooklyn,” says Lindberg, “but my dad’s side of the family, which was not Jewish—he converted when he married my mother—lived in rural Georgia. I would go down and hang out with my uncles, who were great guitar players. We’d hike the Appalachian Trail and listen to old-time music. Something in my soul always responded to this deep, ancient, and undeniable feeling that I had from being down South in this heartland of America.”

“We want to have a chance to share our story with everybody,” Zasloff adds. “There is this word ‘Americana’ that we all know well and is used a lot these days, bridging the gaps somewhere between Old-Time, Bluegrass, Folk, Blues and Jazz which all have deep roots in this country. For me, the beauty of all of these forms of music is that at their core they are about people, they are about this amazing world, and they are about life. That is where we are coming from with Nefesh Mountain; somewhere in the long chain of music and ideology that gives us the opportunity to open people’s minds and hearts to our culture and heritage. We’re all in the same boat here. We’re all trying to figure it out.”

Growing up in the small town of Murphysboro, Ill, not too far from where the Ohio and Mississippi rivers meet, Brent Stewart was always a fan of songwriters. His first cassettes as a kid were Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly. When he was twelve, he bought his first Bob Dylan album. That’s when things changed. He’s been writing and performing his own songs ever since.  Brent began playing his first shows alone with acoustic guitar and harmonica at 15. At 16, he recorded his first album, a cassette-only release. At 17, he formed his first band, The Sympathizers, with whom he recorded four out of print records, the best of which is featured on a recently released compilation, Songs You Never Heard. Through the years, Brent has been a journalist and writer, but has never strayed too far from his songs. Now living in St. Louis, he’s still writing and performing his original music regularly. In 2017 he released two new albums, The Restlessness, recorded with The Sympathizers and Haze, an acoustic album recorded with guitarist Daniel Tejada.

That's Me: @danacoppafeel Drops A New Banger Of A Single - Prod. By @MikeRegalSound

Dana Coppafeel drops a new Single "That's Me", and   it Bangs! -
prod. by Mike Regal

Dana Coppafeel and company star in the “That’s Me” single.  The track is about young kings grinding, dream chasing, and living up the day to day.  This type of song is outside the box for Dana’s style, but he slayed, laying a canvas of lyrics over a base heavy banger produced by Mike Regal who also features on the track.  Coppa pays homage to the grind “When people think about overnight success stories they don’t consider the years of dedication to get to that success” said Dana in an interview about the song.  Just peep the accolades; well “That’s Me”.  Enjoy the song and turn that shit to 11, available on all streaming platforms.

While Dana is no rookie to the Hip-Hop Scene, the visuals for 1Time are a fresh take from the overplayed norm.  With roots in Illinois and Wisconsin, Dana is used to playing both sides of the border and his style and versatility in his repertoire shows it. Portable boom boxes and rap tapes shaped Dana’s love for hip-hop, stemming from the local the community center in Rockford, IL, as a child, trying to memorize lyrics from Boogie Boys, UTFO, Sugar Hill Gang, and Roxanne Shante.  The movie Beat Street took over his life. But the thing that drove Dana the most was his love of freestyling. From middle school till now, Dana rocks a freestyle with ease. He will stop a set, pick someone out in the crowd, and start freestyling about them. Coppa quotes, “My mom would sign me up for guitar lessons but nothing stuck with me. I just wasn’t coordinated enough to play instruments, so that hurt a lot, but once I heard somebody rapping I knew that was the path for me.” When he discovered the early elements of rap and hip-hop, it was a cadence that came natural to Dana’s speaking styles and unique voice. He elevated his craft by touring with Pharcyde and also during the Van’s Warp Tour.  As well as creating music, Dana has a degree in Digital Arts, shelling out his skills in graphic design, photography, film, and graffiti. Dana’s rap style is like a mix of Action Bronson meets Beastie Boys with some Pharcyde sprinkled on top.

Accolades: Released a plethora of albums and has been featured on such platforms as TheSource, Complex, Huffington Post, Rolling Stone, 2DopeBoyz, All Def Digital, and MTVHive
Performances: Dana has opened for Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Lupe Fiasco, Cypress Hill, The Roots, and more. Performed at South x Southwest, A3C, Summerfest, and others.
Collaborations: Worked with notable artists like G-Eazy, Action Bronson, Riff Raff, Skyzoo, Guilty Simpson, Joell Ortiz, Akrobatik, and Bishop Lamont.

Ryan Marquez on piano, Ben Wheeler on bass and Steve Davis on drums.

The album features instrumental pieces inspired by Ryan's experiences in St. Louis and were mostly written in the beginning of last year. His early roots began with gospel and soul, followed by jazz and then brought up in hip-hop. Follow him online and learn more about this artist below.
