“Skinny Lister knows how to have a good time. Throughout their performances, there are various Celtic references, acoustic instrumentation and a ton of fun. It’s a kind of show where you need to hold onto your bootstraps.” – Noisey
“…a visceral and deafening experience.” –The Independent (5-out-of-5)
“…considerably upped their game.” – Q Magazine (5-out-of-5)
London-based rock band Skinny Lister are proud announce their brand new single ‘Thing Like That’, a politically charged track taken from their recently released double-album version of their third critically acclaimed full-length, The Devil, The Heart & The Fight. Check out the premiere of the music video with UPROXX HERE.
The track is a response to recent political events in both the UK and US, which have proved difficult to ignore, even for a usually non-political band. The discourse created by the likes of Brexit and Trump coarse through the veins of this blistering rant of a track which flashes by in an exhilarating 2’13”. ‘Thing Like That’ along with ‘Christmas Calls’, a song inspired by The Pogues’ classic ‘Fairy Tale Of New York’, lead the second CD of the new package before treating the listener to the frenetic energy of their live performances from the band's biggest sold out London show to date at the Scala, and from the Roundhouse during Frank Turner's Lost Evenings Festival both in May 2017.
The bonus disc also features acoustic sessions from the Paste Studio in New York City and the Xtra Mile Outside Broadcast truck which showcase the musical talents of a band that can not only give a full throttle performance on stage but are also able to strip it all back for more intimate renditions. The disc also features four tracks of live band banter, and ends with a lo-fi version of new track ‘Boy Ashore’ which offers an intriguing insight into a rawer and folkier side of Skinny Lister. This two-CD re-release that contains new artwork, live tracks and three brand new songs is out now on Xtra Mile Recordings (available via the Xtra Mile store, iTunes,Amazon).

Additionally, Skinny Lister has returned to the U.S. for a headlining tour with acclaimed UK singer-songwriter and labelmate Will Varley supporting on all dates which began on February 20 at the House of Blues in Dallas, TX. The tour will visit markets such as Los Angeles, CA on February 24, San Francisco, CA on February 25, Seattle, WA on February 28, Chicago, IL on March 6, Brooklyn, NY on March 9, Philadelphia, PA on March 11, Nashville, TN on March 14, and culminate in an appearance at this year’s SXSW Music and Arts Festival in Austin, TX on March 17. The band will also be returning to the U.S. as part of Flogging Molly’s Salty Dog Cruise beginning on April 20 and perform a handful of southeastern dates that will run through April 27. More information on tickets can be found on Skinny Lister’s official website HERE.
If their folk debut album (Forge & Flagon, 2012) celebrated the sticks and their punkier second (Down On Deptford Broadway, 2015) blinked in the bright lights of London; their rocked-up third, The Devil, The Heart & The Fight sees Skinny Lister going global. Pieced together while on the road, and recorded over five weeks in Newcastle Under Lyme’s Silk Mill Studio with producer Tristan Ivemy (Frank Turner, The Holloways), it is Skinny Lister’s most far-reaching, exciting and accomplished album yet. It’s a full-on rock record that splashes even more punk vigour and eighties pop elements across their fervent folk canvas, taking in hints of Adam Ant and The Clash. The Devil, The Heart & The Fight is like Skinny’s previous albums gone backpacking; expanding its horizons, full of adventure, discovering itself and doing things it regrets in the morning. Have heart, ye devils, join the fight.
Skinny Lister will be touring the U.S. with labelmate Will Varley supporting on all dates in February and March, along with making a return appearance to SXSW in Austin, TX.
ACCLAIMED UK FOLK SINGER-SONGWRITER WILL VARLEY ANNOUNCES
NEW ALBUM, SPIRIT OF MINNIE
SPIRIT OF MINNIE PRODUCED BY CAMERON MCVEY (MASSIVE ATTACK, PORTISHEAD, NENEH CHERRY) NOW AVAILABLE IN STORES AND ONLINE VIA XTRA MILE RECORDINGS
London-based independent label Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Against Me!) and critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Will Varley are pleased to announce details of his fifth studio album,Spirit Of Minnie, which will is now available. (pre-order). Following 2016’s much-praised Kingsdown Sundown and a sold out show at London’s Union Chapel, the new album marks a distinct change of direction for the singer-songwriter in that it is the first time he has recorded with a full backing band.
Produced by Cameron McVey (Massive Attack, Portishead, Neneh Cherry), the new album expands on the pared-back musical palette of Varley’s previous sound, all the while retaining his gift for painterly, affirming and immediate lyric writing. Aided by McVey’s nuanced, widescreen production and the warm cascading sound of his new band, the lead-off single, “All Those Stars,” offers the perfect first glimpse into Spirit Of Minnie, straddling Will's sound and style from past to present. Stream the song via YouTube HERE.
