Indie/emo-pop band Hit Like A Girl announces spring tour dates and first SXSW 2018 appearance.
Lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Nicolle Maroulis, a non-binary/queer artist, writes with a bigger vision. What initially started as just a solo acoustic project, has now transformed into a heavier, more energetic and fully realized sound with a rotating line-up of musicians. After years of supporting both local and established acts, Hit Like a Girl released its debut effort, You Make Sense, in 2017.
In lieu of merch sales, Hit Like A Girl dedicates profits to its non-profit organization, No More Dysphoria. Maroulis, alongside Alex Dobrowolski of the band Sunrot, launched the organization to support transgender individuals undergoing major aspects of their transitions, including but not limited to hormone replacement therapy, gender reassignment surgery, gender behavioral and occupational therapy. You can learn more about their organization by visiting www.nomoredysphoria.com.
Hit Like a Girl is set to release new music in 2018.
BIO
Hit Like A Girl is an indie/emo/pop band from Montclair, New Jersey fronted by Nicolle Maroulis.
Nicolle is a non-binary/queer artist who started this project on their own. They began writing these songs years ago with an acoustic guitar and a vision. They spent years and years supporting other artists' musical endeavors, and finally decided to put that same energy into their own music. What initially started as just a singer-songwriter acoustic project, has now transformed into the full-band energetic sound we know and love today as Hit Like A Girl.
The band has since been a collective involving different people to play different instruments at various shows. The lineup right now consists of Frederick Pruden playing guitar and synth, Joseph Paventa playing bass, and Marco Caruso playing drums.
Most bands put a lot of effort and thought into the merch they print and sell at their shows, but Hit Like A Girl purposely does not sell merch at their shows. Nicolle (alongside Alex Dobrowolski of the band Sunrot) runs a non profit organization called No More Dysphoria, and at their shows sell merch for this organization instead. All proceeds of sales go towards aiding transgender individuals pay for major aspects of their transitions including but not limited to hormone replacement therapy, gender reassignment surgery, gender behavioral and occupational therapy, etc.
