JUKEBOX EP

COMING SOON

JSMN TRNR

Jasmine Turner is an energetic soul singer/songwriter from St. Louis, MO. Producing raw sounds, rich in emotion, she is a true vessel of creativity. Her passion stretches far beyond knowing the healing capabilities of music. She uses this knowledge intentionally to edify the people listening. She was raised by an eclectic mix of influences, but especially Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and any “Oldie but Goodie” artist. No less influential was Whoopi Goldberg, Sammy Davis Jr., Missy Elliot, and Maya Angelou. These pioneers, along with so many others, inspired her to push towards originality in her art of choice.

Jasmine released her first studio recording, This Love, on January 1, 2017. Though intended to be a simple resolution, the smooth Maroon 5 cover was the catalyst for her commitment to herself and her artistry. She'd spent six years prior to the release performing primarily background vocals for various local acts. "I had a lot of time to think. Too much thinking can easily lead to not enough doing. So, while using the cover gigs to hone in on my craft, I continued to write until I finally got my ass in the studio!"

Though there's much room for the interpretation and re-creation of the music she loves, there's even more space for her original works. Her debut EP, Jukebox, is a 4-track collection of her most eclectic pieces (aimed to be released mid-spring). She uses cryptic, yet bold and in your face lyrics, combined with ethereal harmonies. Seeing her live reveals her power to take you through her world of truth, leaving you with strong feelings and inspiration. Feel-good vibes flow through her dope arrangements fused with jazz like chords, and percussive rhythms. Complex, yet introspective experiences, by way of her music, give fans a genuine listen. Soulful, free, beautiful, and authentic - Jasmine Turner.

Endangered Species Project: @FIREDOGstl CD Release Sat. 2/17 At The Stage @KDHX

This Saturday, February 17th at noon brings a family matinee show to The Stage At KDHX presented by Musical Merry-Go-Round featuring the group Fire Dog celebrating the release of their new CD "Endangered Species Project". The inspiration behind the album is centered around endangered species, but stems from the song "Hellbender" about a visit to the St. Louis Zoo. The track became a teaching tool of the group's leader Mark Pagano as it sparked a new curriculum that he developed in St. Louis Public Schools. After public inquiries and demand for the educational album and a grant in 2016 from the Regional Arts Commission the production of the recording began. Fast-forward to now and it's ready for presentation. Visit HERE for the event details on Facebook. There are some excellent quotes from school teachers and media publications on the new disk there, as well.

Find A Way: @SeanCorayMusic Album Release w/ #JoannaSerenko Fri. 12/8 At The Stage @kdhx

Singer/songwriter Sean Coray of St. Louis will be releasing his new album entitled "Find A Way" on Friday, December 8th at The Stage at KDHX. His style thus far has been along the lines of rock, folk, soul and pop. Joanna Serenko is also performing that night. Joining Sean onstage also will be Sean Archer, Andrew Edmonds (Stikyard), Paul Niehaus IV (Roland Johnson) and Ryan Marquez (The People's Key / Fresh Heir). The doors open at 7:00 pm and the show begins at 8:00 pm. Visit HERE for the event details on Facebook. Below you will be able to find out more about the artists on this show, plus a biography on Sean also.

THIS IS SEAN CORAY

In pursuit of a dream, not many people would choose to leave their job and their home. Sean Coray decided to take a life changing leap. “I gave up my apartment, everything…I have so much less, but I’m a lot happier,” Coray says. With every song, he’s confronting all the doubt faced from his self and distractors.

“Find a Way” is Sean Coray’s third EP, a follow up to his 2016 release “Encinitas”. While that EP served as a reawakening of his music career, “Find a Way” shows the progression that Coray has made as a songwriter and artist, and that he continues to press forward and chase his dreams.

“This was a challenging collection of songs to make; my team pushed me every day to step outside of my comfort zone; I believe I did that with ‘Find a Way’”, he said.

Mixing his personal life with his love of creative storytelling, Sean Coray’s new EP still draws influences from rock, folk, soul and pop. To help develop his unique sound, he packed a bag and drove south to music city.

Recorded at Deaf Dog Studios and Pentavarit in Nashville, Sean Coray worked with Nashville producer and singer-songwriter, Randall Kent. Randall Kent has been at the helm and collaborated on records by Matt Hires (Rock Ridge Music), WILD (Nettwerk), and Volunteer. As a result, Sean Coray put together a creative and memorable collection of songs.

“It’s about not giving up,” Coray said of his new EP. “We must continue to push forward and get to where we want to be in life. We have our good days, and we have our bad days. Those who never quit, ultimately find their peace.”

@Cora_Camille of @FinalVeil interview on @kdhx. Review of "Arabian Daze". Debut's tonight @PlushSTL! #STL #MUSIC

Last week I shared with you some media on Final Veil's debut of "Arabian Daze" happening tonight at Plush. In case you missed that post, scroll down the blog or visit HERE. Today I would like to share with you the interview she did this past week on KDHX about tonight's show and also I'm including a two-song review of the introduction part of the new album shared to me by Cora Camille. It's also nice to see this show made the RFT's top ten shows for this weekend too. I can certainly appreciate how much effort and thought it takes into putting together a show like this. Be sure to bookmark or "like"/follow the group's website or pages as they will be posting the full-album for streaming purposes in the coming week, or so. Now I'm going to share with you my experience of the first two songs on the new album. Find that below the interview.

*Click HERE to stream the Cora Camille interview on KDHX.

"Arabian Daze" : This first track is actually the traditional classic "Arabian Nights" turned on it's head. Listen to Cora on the interview for the back round on the original author, if you unfamiliar. I felt like Alice after she fell into the rabbit hole after listening this one. A dramatic string-section initiates a familiar strand of threading once formerly associated with it's vintage predecessor. Cora's vocals are introduces abruptly afterwards in fine, Arabian fashion summoning the listener as if her voice were the sound of the wind initiating a storm in the desert. Along with the strumming sound of the ude, it creates a tension in the tonal value of the song. After the first thirty seconds of this song, Cora sings a familiar phrase from the original version and the vibe is altered by the dramatic beat of a drum. This sets the pace for the rest of the track. The strings, the drum both speed up and a electronic beat is introduced. Arabian Daze is now born. The storm has quelled and a desert rose blooms, metaphorically speaking. The chorus goes dub-step and the melody swoons over the music. It re-minds me of the image that I get in my mind from listening to Moby's instrumental theme "God Moving Over The Waters". The back round vocals are inviting and add a nice touch. At about this point in the song, one min. and forty-five seconds, the difference in Final Veil's version and the original are polar opposites. Egyptian-Electronica, orchestral strings and dub-step continue for another forty-five seconds and then another tonal adjustment is made with the introduction of a piano. I find that the theme of the strings throughout mixed with the piano really set the tone for the song, musically. The piano continues to carry the bridge into the end of the song. Certain themes are created musically and vocally throughout the song and come to fruition at the end of the song, as it ends similar to the way it began. I thought the filter on Cora's voice was a good way to differentiate this part from the rest. I loved the down-beat and trip-hop influences in portions of this song. If this song doesn't give you chills, then something just might be wrong with you.

"Sinister" : The second song is much different than the first. The beginning few measures begin with a lull in sound that increases in volume introducing the beat and rhythm. "He's a joker, he's evil" is the vocal and lyrical cue for the chaos that ensues with the percussive beat. The rhythm of this one is more industrial influenced. Something you might have heard on David Bowie's "Earthling" release in the nineties, for example. Cora sings over the verses with a confidence and haunting tone to her voice. There is some cool vocal-bends and falsettos mixed in along with additional reverb for effect. Some faint dub-step is introduced after the first chorus and some guitar that sounds familiar to something you may have heard from the movie 'Pulp Fiction'. Around the one-min. twenty-second mark there is a build in layers with additional percussion added in along with the electronic portion of it. The pace is set when verse two is began by Cora's vocals and followed by the second chorus. From there additional themes and beats are slowly added in, similar to a chef cooking his finest meal with timed calculations and experience. Just when you begin to really adjust and settle in to just how evil the song's character is, it is over. It left me wanting more, which is exactly what a song should do sometimes. Especially, the second track of a thirteen song album!

Post #78 Damned Holy Rollers & new VOTW by Skiddalz #STL #MUSIC

The Damned Holy Rollers just finished up four new tracks. This is one of them. You can stream the rest of them HERE. Also, is another track that I have blogged in the past by them and also a KDHX playlist from when they stopped by the studio there and played live. Their next appearance is January 20th at the Heavy Anchor. What a rockin' feature. Riverfront Times Showcase Samplers 1 & 2 + Blind Eyes live @ KDHX:

The Riverfront Times Showcase is tomorrow in downtown St. Louis and it is just $5.00 to go, the A-Z music blog has compiled a preview of some of the artists that will be performing. So, I thought it would be beneficial to share their playlist with you also. The event takes place from 2pm to 2am. Click the highlighted link for a detailed synopsis on each act and where to get there music. Support the artist in any way you can, the artists submitted these tracks to them for sampling purposes, so go to one of their shows and or purchase their music when it is possible to do so. Also, if you plan to attend, here is a handy guide to the event right HERE. So, here it is, part one and part two of the sampler, courtesy of the RFT:

I think it is nice to see them using Sound Cloud, another local site that has been using it for quite awhile now is KDHX, they crank out new tracks every day. You see, every day that any artist stops by their studio, they have a video feature of them and they record it. They upload those tracks to Sound Cloud too. Normally, this is for free downloads, but I think sometimes it is good to feature stuff like this too. It is just good for the scene. Since the above tracks are from RFT artists, I figured why not share something from KDHX too, so low and behold the other day's session was with the Blind Eyes. They are on the RFT Showcase for 2011 too, so it just works, enjoy streaming all of this mostly local talent from this post. Without further ado, here are the Blind Eyes live on KDHX from June 2nd:

Post 17 featuring Butcher Holler:

Butcher Holler is an three-piece Americana, Rock, Country group of seasoned veterans that have just the right balance between the three members and style attributes listed above. Their songs also sometimes tend to have a honky-tonk vibe to them. St. Louis has many great Rockabilly groups that branch off into different directions and genres. Butcher Holler even hints on these categories, as well. On Saturday, Nov. 20th they will be doing a special honky-tonk set at the Way Out Club that we all know and love. Below are three tracks by the group, each has a video embedded in the song's widget w/ flyer art, but you have to view them on Sound Cloud. Their song, 'Eva' was shot live at KDHX. The promo flyer for the event is listed below, as well as the three tracks & videos that accompany them:
