In honor of Black History Heritage Month I thought that it would be neat to post some of my favorite African-Americans that I enjoy from our scene. STL Public Radio aired & has some shows on St. Louis history in black and white that I found interesting. Explore St. Louis also showcases some of the events around town in conjunction with this months celebration and awareness. Kim Massie is the most recognizable that comes to mind. She was just honored by the RFT as one of the six acts leading our scene currently. She is one busy lady. When she is not out at premier events or venues like her mainstay on Broadway, she is also enjoying life as a grandma. Recently, she performed and shared with Arch City Radio Hour. Let's give it a listen & feel free to "like" her fan page HERE. Her next two performances are Thursday, 2/20 & Thursday 2/27 at Beale On Broadway from 10:30 pm to 2:30 am.

Marquise Knox comes from a family heritage of the blues. He is currently on tour in Florida. He learned how to play guitar from his grandma. He has come a long way since then earning performing rights with some big names. He is still young in the grand scheme of things and plays like a blues master of the past, yet he is the real deal in the present. I think that is what I admire most about him. Feel free to give his fan page a "like" HERE.

A friend of mine once shared a status update about Midwest Avengers. I seem to recall it now. "It's nice to be part of a posse." That has been my experience with them too. MWA has been rocking for twenty-two years now. Currently, they have two shows left with their guitarist of ten years Mike Zubiena and are celebrating their new release "Hurry Up & Wait". They also just added bass player Brad Blumenkemper to the fold. In addition, they have a brand new video that drops this Friday, 2/21. HERE is a teaser from it and it's titled "Life Goes On". Their next two shows are as follows: Saturday, March 1 at Cicero's & Tuesday, March 18th at Fubar. Stop by their fan page HERE and give them a "like" & then check out some of their latest music. The new stuff is available on ITunes and they will have physical copies at their upcoming shows.
