#ToastToChuck - A tribute to the #STL #MUSIC : #ROCK Legend @ChuckBerry
#ToastToChuck time. Pokey La Farge is right we do need to grieve Chuck Berry. However, right now is the time that people all over St. Louis and beyond are raising their glass to our city's rock and roll legend. It is very nice that the family of Chuck Berry has opened viewing to the public at The Pageant and it is amazing to see how one person can touch the lives of so many people. Inspiration is a funny and interesting thing. In honor of you Chuck, St. Louis salutes you Mr. Chuck Berry! May you rest in peace.
Russ Ballard of the band Argent wrote that God gave rock and roll to you. Then Petra decided that was true also. KISS even followed suit and proclaimed the same. Elvis was once quoted to say that Chuck Berry is the true king of rock and roll. Regardless, he is a legend and a true innovator of music. If you are from St. Louis you more than likely consider him to be the Father of rock and roll. His music speaks for itself and you can listen to his catalog below. Followed by that is another playlist of St. Louis rock acts that are all inspired by the music of Chuck Berry. Thanks for your passion and contribution to our town, to music and to rock and roll. Here's to you, Chuck.

@minusthebear this Friday 4/7 w/ @beachslang & @bayonne @DelmarHallstl
Minus The Bear (WA) will be performing in support of their latest album and Tour "VOIDS" this Friday at Delmar Hall along with Beach Slang (PA) and Bayonne (TX). General Admission is $22.50 in advance or $25.00 day of show. This is an all-ages show, minors will incur a $2 surcharge at the door. Doors are at 7pm, show is at 8pm. For more info. visit the official Facebook event page HERE.
VOIDS marks the Seattle band’s first new full-length in five years and is also their return to their original label home, the venerable Suicide Squeeze Records. Fans interested in getting one last preview of the new songs found on the album before its release later this week can stream the song “What About The Boat?”, debuted today via Billboard’s interview with Jake Snider. Minus the Bear will soon be embarking on a 29-date spring tour across North America that kicks off at SXSW 2017 and culminating in a hometown Seattle show on April 15th.
For the past 15 years Minus the Bear have made music on their own terms while carving out their own unique musical world, selling over 500k records in the process and playing to countless sold out crowds along the way. This isn’t to say they’re impervious to outside influence. They’ve borrowed components from a wide swath of genres—the brainy clangor of New York’s proto-punk scene, the cerebral buzz of IDM, the poptimist evaluation of hip-hop and R&B, and the grandiose visions of prog rock—but always managed to defy classification.
On their sixth album VOIDS, produced by Sam Bell (The Cribs, Weezer, Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club), Minus the Bear started with a blank slate, and inadvertently found themselves applying the same starting-from-scratch strategies that fueled their initial creative process. “There was a lot of change and uncertainty,” says guitarist David Knudson. “I think the general vibe of emptiness, replacement, lacking, and longing to fill in the gaps was very present in everyones’ minds.”
Minus The Bear is Jake Snider (vocals, guitar), Dave Knudson (guitar), Cory Murchy (bass guitar), and Alex Rose (synthesizers, vocals).

Beach Slang are a band who have garnered a lot of attention considering that they've only released two 7-inches, 2014's Cheap Thrills On A Dead End Street and its companion Who Would Ever Want Something So Broken? Refreshingly this Philadelphia-based act have built their hype the old-fashioned way, without any gimmicks or marketing teams, which makes sense when you consider that frontman and writer James Alex cut his teeth in the Pennsylvania pop-punk act Weston while drummer JP Flexner and bassist Ed McNulty also play in buzzed about projects such as Ex-Friends and Crybaby. However there's something indefinable about Beach Slang's music that evokes the spirit of punk and juxtaposes it into something that's as brutally honest as it is infectiously catchy.

Bayonne was featured last year in Rolling Stone's article, "Ten Artists You Need To Know About".

#GuidedByVoices @GBVTweets w/ @_brainstems this Friday 4/7 @TheReadyRoom
This Friday, April 7th at The Ready Room happening from 7pm to 11pm is Guided By Voices with The Brainstems as a supporting act from St. Louis. Visit the official event page on Facebook HERE for more info. Now let's check out the latest video from GBV and feel free to check out their website and Bandcamp discography, as well as music available by STL's own The Brainstems.
WATCH & SHARE: Guided By Voices - "5° On The Inside." on TIDAL.com/GBV
Guided By Voices August By Cake (April 7, GBV Inc Records) is the 100th studio album that Robert Pollard has released since 1986's Forever Since Breakfast. To put that in perspective, Bob Dylan has released roughly 39 studio albums since 1959. And that includes the Traveling Wilburys.
A highly anticipated record with the new line-up (returning GBV veterans Doug Gillard and Kevin March, virgins Bobby Bare Jr and Mark Shue) that has been wowing audience in clubs and festivals throughout 2016. It's the most musically adept and versatile line-up Pollard has ever assembled.
With 32 songs, August By Cake is also GBV's first ever double-album, and song contributions from all five bandmembers is additional icing on this particular cake, setting album #100 apart from the previous 99.
The double album is an important format in Pollard's own musical iconography, and he doesn't take the form lightly -- one reason he's planned and abandoned several would-be GBV double albums in the past is his high regard for foundational works like Quadrophenia, the White Album, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Daydream Nation, Zen Arcade, Double Nickels On the Dime -- "defining records for these bands," says Pollard. It's important to him that August By Cake not just be a double album but that it be a great double album.
Visit Guided By Voices' website HERE and their Bandcamp right HERE.
The Brainstems were interviewed by St. Louis Magazine last year if you care to read the article. It details their thoughts on touring as a band. Below is a video of their's and that is followed by their latest single and subsequent album.

Siamese (TX) is in town this Friday, April 7th at Foam with Kid Scientist and CaveofswordS both supplying local support. The show starts at 8 PM and goes until midnight. Visit HERE for the official event page on Facebook for the rest of the details.
Siamese is the glam rock band of four theatrically inclined friends from Dallas, TX. Mixing ominous art pop with opulent set design and deranged alter egos, their live show makes you feel like you could go out and invent a new color, or wear a leotard to work.
The group’s debut release The Mesmerist, tracked with producer Alex Bhore at the studio Elmwood Recording and was released just last month. With two monolithic bookends and a slew of twists in between, the record treks through the charming, soothing and savage, with lyrics inspired by sociopathic film characters and a few shades of identity crisis.

"CaveofswordS is a dream-pop project based out of St. Louis, led by vocalist Sunyatta McDermott. They released their lead single, “Lately” today, off of their forthcoming album, Sigils due out on 3/10. Dark and atmospheric, McDermott’s vocals are simultaneously breathy and soaring, accompanying an elegantly dreamy, sinister minor melodic synth and electric guitar. Within the track, there are nods to both 80s new wave and late 90s pop rock thanks to the seamless blend of infectious electronic drums and McDermott’s vocal prowess, underpinned by a grittier guitar line than we’re used to hearing in this brand of electro."

"Mixing cabaret, electronica and calliope influences in its test tube, Kid Scientist causes a chemical reaction of fun without the annoying side effects of explosions and stinky gas. Indeed, the band's songs "Micro Boy" and "Murder On The Dance Floor" would make a fine soundtrack to a Broadway musical about a chemistry student who uses oleader extractto kill off his high school bullies. Or, less sinister. KS could score a nice movie about the wonders of space. Either way, Kid Scientist also paid attention during AP English and Pop-Culture History classes, because the band's Facebook updates are informative, articulate and hi-freaking-larious."
