Best Tracks Of 2011! Top Downloaded Artist & Most Hype'd! #STL #MUSIC

Another year is over. That means it is time for me to do our first real best of lists. I am doing this according to performance record on this year. So, here are the best performing tracks on the blog here according to their performance record! Please note that if a track was blogged from the artist's Sound Cloud account, I have not a way to track their performance. I suggest artists to do it this way, it promotes your band profile their way more. But, this is according to tracks uploaded to our account this year. The top five are as follows:

1) The Last Round: To learn more on this these young turks, click HERE. In promotion w/ the first annual Rock U Fest, I emailed a ton of music blogs, etc. This group & the next one had just happened to have released brand new music and were on the main page of the blog and got a lot of plays. They broke 400 in less than 24 hrs.

2) Lost Continent: To learn more on these dudes, click HERE. This band is good, grows on you too. Nice guys. Love the sound and keyboard. These decently surpassed 300 plays in less than 24 hrs.

3) Arythma: To learn more on these guys, click HERE. I saw that these guys were on a benefit show around the holidays recently, knew they had a newer site w/ all of their tracks for free download, thought it would be beneficial to promote a track of theirs for the show and they didn't mind. They have done well in our area in the past and you just may have heard of them before too.

The Top Downloaded artist for 2011 is Zachary Friedrich. This is why "indie", not the style, the idea that is cool. Never heard of him, people liked his music, he was new and just promoted his music. It did well right off the bat. He submitted three tracks to me and he now has his own Sound Cloud account and does well there. Click HERE to learn more on him. His three tracks garnered him w/ 30 downloads on our site. I think that's good since most don't know how to use the site overall and this blog is still fairly new.

*Zach's tracks "Strawberry Blonde", "Keep The Lid On Her Urn" & "Jack & Ella" were removed on 2/16/12, visit his Sound Cloud for free downloads of his.

The most hype'd artist of 2011 is Pirate Signal. To see how our blog does there, visit us on the Hype Machine.

The most hype'd artist of 2011 that visited St. Louis and was blogged here was Pree. They have been posted by 9 blogs and are on Paper Garden Records. Congrats to all!

Thanks for the support and look for some more cool stuff in 2012!

* I have to note, tied for third was Doubtwhistle for "Don't Kill It If It You Ain't Gonna Eat It", however they do not have a contact on their page. So, I was unable to get a hold of them to get a track to download. Here is a widget from their Reverbnation:

ComScore

All of the other votes received were under ten votes, so we can try this again next year and hopefully more will participate. Looking forward to 2012...

Post #72 featuring The Orbz & Sink The Bismark! #STL #MUSIC

Drummer Chris Luckett came to St. Louis from Louisville, KY a few years ago and soon after joined indie rockers The Orbz. Soon after that, he helped bring together pop-rockers BulletPOP. Soon after that, he helped form the harder-edged twin guitar blast of Supermaroon. In 2011, the day before Thanksgiving, Chris will bring all three bands together for an event they're calling The Chris Luckett Turkey Day Marathon. The Marathon happens on Wednesday, November 23rd at El Lenador on Cherokee. It also happens to happen during a weekly event called Stag Nite, hosted by local roust-about Johnny Vegas. This means that in addition to getting in for only $5, guests can also indulge in Stag beers for $1. A good portion of The Orbz music is available for free download at the web link posted.

This week's #VideoOfTheWeek is by Sink The Bismark. This is an entire live set by the group from earlier this year, check out their style of punk rock below:

Post #69 featuring The Domino Effect & Battalion!

The Domino Effect is a hip-hop duo from St. Louis that formed towards the end of 2008. The two compliment each other nicely and I'm diggin' their style. Steve Clair is the more serious of the two and is the storyteller. Young Clue has the more comedic sense of humor and it is a good balance. Feel free to grab their track below.

This week's #Video Of The Week! is by metal/hardcore band Battalion from Springfield, IL. Produced by JK Productions. Peep it:

So, in honor of him, here is a video of him singing "Roll Over Beethoven" on Super Night Of Rock 'n Roll in 1984. In honor of Chuck Berry’s 85th birthday today, sculptor Don Wiegand will have a cast of Mr. Berry’s hands holding a Gibson guitar neck installed at his home away from home, Blueberry Hill. This will be displayed in the same case as his famous Gibson guitar in the main bar area near the front door.

Ceremony begins at 6pm and Mr. Berry will be in attendance.

Post #56 feat. the Fox Hole stage at Rock U Fest & two new releases by main stage artists:

For those of you paying attention, Rock U Fest 2011 is now a little less than two weeks away. Next week on the blog the full time schedule, lineup order, playlist for each stage will be posted in an extended feature here. Last week, the acoustic/electro stage's playlist was posted. Now it is the Fox Hole stage's turn. The main stage will be featured at the top of the extended post next week. If you are not familiar with Atomic Cowboy, which is the location the event will take place on Sept. 24th, note that the Fox Hole is actually part of the complex. The entrance is actually inside the venue itself, as the two buildings are connected to each other.

Also, in this post you will find a new release by two of the high school bands playing the main stage, one in particular is a much better quality recording and is their first ever! The other is a brand new release by one of the LouFest (Area K) artists from this year's event. Plus, be sure to see the #Video Of The Week page for this week's newest video! Here are your artists for the first annual Rock U Fest's Fox Hole stage, they are as follows:

Fox Hole Stage at Rock U Fest 2011 by rockufest2

Clockwork is a three-piece high school band making waves. Connibal Road and Corvus both just played Pointfest this past w/e on the Pop's stage. Damned Holy Rollers just straight rock and mean business, Harmony Grove is fronted by the former vocalist of Rusted Shine, but if you know John Joseph it is not what you might suspect. They are currently working on recording, so to represent his voice, you can listen to the track to get an idea. What I do know is that Harmony Grove is a country/rock band with some blues in there too and the size of the group is around seven members. Man Eating Tiger is a fairly newer act, along with veterans like Ockum's Razor and also Panic Attack. Revence is another newer act, hitting the scene, playing routinely. We also have Scene Of Irony, another veteran of the scene. The Neverhawks have a loud, aggressive bluesy-mix, lastly we have Toilet Water. A funky blend of madcaps that act as a revolving door for Ruka Puff to to continue to launch himself into the national scene. Oh, snap! Let's not forget The Sudden Impact and also Butterfly Distortion, you can check out their links, as I never received any music from them. But, they will be on this stage too.

Next up, two of the main stage artists that I mentioned above, them being The Last Round and Lost Continent. The Last Round was previously blogged with a I-Phone recording to represent them. That is how new they are, but they have that raw, punk angst that just can't be ignored. Fresh from the studio, we just got their first official recording, congrats to them on that. Also, below is a band that I really liked when I saw them live, they are Lost Continent. They just performed at the (Area K) stage at this year's LouFest. This is a brand new release for them, they just seem to continue to progress. Check out these two main stage artists for Rock U Fest. Kudos to these two up-and-comer's.

The Last Round - Three Ten Ten by rockufest-3

Lost Continent - Sound The Sirens by rockufest-3

*Later on this week I have another band to post that are also promoting a show for the coming w/e. Look for that one Wednesday. So, if you have something coming up, be sure to send a track or two over. I will get you on the next post. Enjoy, eight of these fourteen tracks are downloadable.

Post 53 feat. 8uz *Exclusive*, Sinfinis & Spiral-Shaped Mind @ Crack Fox 8/28

This Saturday night at the Crack Fox, 8uz, Sinfinis & Spiral-Shaped Mind will be there and plan to alter your idea of what live music performance is. So, get ready to open your mind for a unique experience. HERE is the facebook event. 8uz's unique live performances stem from their usage of live drums. Unlike most electronic groups, their foundation comes from their musicianship instead of a computer and according to the RFT, they sound “like nothing else in St. Louis. Visit there website to download their earlier albums for free to prepare you for their upcoming release Valiance, available Fall 2011 (through their Withered Records label). In conclusion, we have an exclusive track by 8uz for you, courtesy of the artist and Marquee Media. So, thanks for sending us this! In addition, we have featured Sinfinis before and also Spiral-Shaped Mind, so I did some thinking and found a track that will work to represent these artists also. By the way, Sinfinis is striving for fan #777, once they reach the number they are releasing a new track for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!
