#Carnaval2018: @mkngmvs @mariachinyc @AlexCuba @hobocanemusic + More Sat. 6/9 @Knuckleheadskc

On Saturday, June 9th Carnaval 2018 will be taking place at Knucklehead's Saloon in Kansas City, Missouri. It brings together national, local and youth performers to celebrate the city's diverse arts community. This is a family-friendly event featuring street performers, food trucks, artist's alley, local vendors, face-painting, drum safari and more. Visit HERE for the event details on Facebook.
The concert goes from 6:00 pm to midnight featuring performances by Making Movies, Mariachi Flor De Toloache, Alex Cuba, Hobo Cane, Parranderos Latin Combo, Mandy B., Grupo Atotonilco, Panamanian FolkloricoDrum Safari and Latino Writers Collective.

On March 28th of 2018 Making Movies experienced such a tremendous honor, not only did the mayor of Kansas City, Missouri invite them to perform at his state of the city address, but he embraced their pro-immigrant message; and the band presented him with a "We Are All Immigrants" hoodie at the conclusion of his speech. Kansas City is a part of the group's DNA; she allowed them to grow up before their eyes, to experiment, to learn by their victories and mistakes, and create Making Movies and for that the band is grateful.

This is a journey that started seven years ago, with the help of the Mattie Rhodes Center, Making Movies launched a music camp for inner city kids. That camp is now transforming into a year-round program for young songwriters under the direction of their very own non profit, Art As Mentorship. Four years ago they hosted their first ever Making Movies Carnaval, a block party to celebrate the kids who they worked with at the camp, and recently, that event has evolved into a music festival!  Making Movies are so excited to announce that the fourth annual Making Movies Carnaval will be June 9th at Knuckleheads!  Supporting Carnaval is the best way to help them grow their community. Purchase Your Tickets HERE.

Carnaval continues to bring great acts to Kansas City, artists that they've met along the way, many of whom have not had the opportunity to perform in their hometown.  This year they have Latin Grammy Winners, Maricahi Flor de Toloache and Alex Cuba with a slew of other amazing bands.  The day long, all ages festival is the central fundraiser for their newly launched non profit, Art As Mentorship

Making Movies Carnaval will also rap up the first ever Carnaval Tour, a 22 city tour with Alex Cuba and Las Cafeteras that takes this Carnaval spirit throughout the nation.  One show at a time they are redefining folk in North America– highlighting the rich, but often overlooked, folk music of Latin America and the artists who are bringing it into the future. From Los Angeles to Cuba, Panama to New Orleans, Carnaval is a moment to let loose and express the resilience of the human spirit. It is an open and inclusive environment, a place where tradition and rebellion coexist. If you have any folks in these other twenty one cities, please send them their way.
