The musicians of The Red-Headed League ride a local musical legacy all the way back to the early 1960s. During the 1980s, lead guitarist JP Coffin (of 60s bands Johnny Coffin and His Undertakers, In Black & White, The Wizards From Kansas) began playing in local punk bands with bassist Dave Olds (Sin City Disciples, and with JP in The Sinclairs/EMF). In 1990, Dave and JP connected with rhythm guitarist Mark Stahl (Nosferatu, The Jolly Rogers) to form D.E.M. - Deus Ex Machina - a fusion of punk, psychedelia, and jazz. The mid-2000s saw JP, Dave, and Mark reunited in The Kansas City Hitmen, laying down some severe garage blues. In 2013 they regrouped as The Red-Headed League, recruiting long-time local musician Daniel Starling (La Fuente Del Ritmo, Power & Fear, DWSTAR, Bipolar Magnets) on keyboards, Ingrid Harper of the Seattle-area act The Rrhoids on percussion, and newcomer Jessee Koehn on drums. In 2017 JP and Ingrid departed to focus on other projects, so Joey Skidmore (of The Royal Nonesuch and The Joey Skidmore Band) was recruited into the League for rhythm guitar and vocal duties.

Their sound that has been fermenting and fomenting on the furthest fringes of Kansas City's music scene for decades. Echoing from Riverbottom to Tombstone Alley, from the Crossroads to Midtown and beyond, it's a sound you can't escape. And sometimes you get the opportunity to happen upon it -- too loud to avoid. You feel in your soul. It’s a HAPPENING: a new opportunity - freeing a tiger from its cage. The Red-Headed League - real, gritty, and totally Kansas City.
