Ekkomouse is a two-piece producing original alternative "beat" rock. Look for them to perform their first show in the near future. Meanwhile, be sure to take a listen to some of their music from their debut release "Suspicious Cricket". They incorporate guitar and bass along with live drums and drum programming/loops. The vocals are strong and spirited that carry a melody over the groove. The band describes it as a mash-up of hip-hop drums with a modern take on grunge and punk rock. Be on the look out for their first performance and feel free to name your price or download the release for no charge at their Bandcamp site HERE. Included below the three tracks from Sound Cloud is the complete album I just mentioned. Enjoy.

Allow me to introduce to you eight members with one collective passion for music and they go by the name of The Great Grandfathers. They will be sharing the stage with Jimmy Griffin and also The Defeated County this Saturday at Plush. HERE is the official event on facebook.
The Pop-Rock, Soul-Dance extravaganza that is "Saint Anthony's Fire" is their first effort. The Riverfront Times had the following to say about them this past June,"Saint Anthony's Fire is the band's first release, and it sounds like the fruitful labor of plenty of both bedroom songwriting sessions and meticulous studio tinkering." This is just an excerpt of the review by Christian Schaeffer. But you get the idea that they put a lot of thought and time getting it just right. With a heritage, yet modern sound, they have created a truly unique album with an addictive title track. HERE is a link to their EPK is you feel so inclined to check it out. Without further ado here is a song by the group.

Okay, moving right along. Here is a rapper/producer/multi-instrumentalist from St. Louis by the name Deloney (Pronounced duh-LOAN-ee). HERE's the link to the tape on Sound Cloud.
All tracks were produced by Deloney. This his 3rd mixtape which is entitled "STL-ien". The idea came from a word-play of Alien and STL (St. Louis abbreviation) and influenced from OutKast's "ATL-iens". The mixtape gives listeners a full musical experience starting off hard on the first few tracks and gradually slowing down into a more mellow mood towards the end. Below is one of the tracks of the mixtape.

Far Fetched presents "A Brave New World" at Plush this Saturday. The production is organized by a new initiative, let's call it a label, that is interested in featuring future-minded musicians and also the eclectic. They carry the belief that music is of much value in this day and age where it can be viewed as easily dispensable and or little worth. I appreciate the idea and hard work that it takes to put together something like this and thought it would be good to take the time to acknowledge this and also to let you know about it. I ran across their Sound Cloud account a few days ago and it just made sense. Click HERE for the venue's event on facebook for the 411 on all that. Be sure to click on the hyper-link for Far Fetched and check out the links to all of the artists on the bill seen in the above flyer.

As promised, part two of three features is now here for this Saturday's second annual Rock University Festival. This post shines a light on The Fox Hole Stage at Atomic Cowboy. This stage is located adjacent to the Acoustic/Electro stage. However, those double-doors will be closed to keep out any noise bleed through's between rooms. How do I get into the Fox Hole? One might ask. Well, when you enter the venue, just follow the hallway to the rear of the building and go outside to the expansive patio. When you get outside and are past the cantina area, the space opens up and you will see the Outdoor Stage. To your right will be the door to enter into the Fox Hole. Let's have a look at the schedule, shall we?

Bassist Rich Wooten of The Falling Martins was kind enough to introduce me to his group's music. He showed me their double-disk that was recorded live at The Old Rock House, which is an impressive package, by the way. This conversation ironically took place at The Old Rock House this past April 17th after the first STLMU meeting in three years. It was two years ago, in May, that I began applying myself to this blog. Over the course of which, I have seen a unbelievable interest in our music scene in St. Louis. The meeting went pretty well and it was on a Tuesday night, same night at the Cardinals were in a post-season game downtown. All that I had to go by in my mind was the first meeting that I attended years ago, when I was introduced to this group. There were two tables connected at the "late" Cruisin' Rt. 66 located on Watson Rd. It was interesting to me because there were musicians of all ages from all types of genres, including people that work at venues, promote, etc. I did a lot of listening. There were around 20-25 people at that first meeting then, so I think that the 30 or so that attended the meeting I mentioned from this past April is a good sign. I think that because it was after only three meetings that it caused a domino effect and there were around 250 people in Cruisin' Rt. 66 on a Monday night years ago. I just wanted to get the ball rolling, so to speak. A big thanks to those that attended from acts like The Falling Martins, Revence, Midwest Avengers, Shotgun Abby, Sinfinis, The Psychedelic Psychonauts, It!, Kyle Walz, Alex Rosales, Angerchild, Ockum's Razor, The Washco Lowlifes, Castlewood, J. Boozer & also The Ragged Blade Band. They came from areas reaching from as far as Nashville, IL to O'Fallon, MO. In addition, I would like to thank Tara Pham of Eleven Magazine, Royal Management, Sara from the Alton Main Street in Illinois & also to The Grove STL for their presence there. The theme was about events and festivals, seeing that this is when that season is in full-swing. The next one will take place toward the end of summer, probably in August. The theme will be the same for the next meeting also.
